English in ELT

The use of Poetry/songs in teaching/learning English

I've found that music is the most pleasurable way to learn a language. I was terrible at studying English when I was in junior high. Fortunately, I found a friend who enjoys music as much as I do and whose English pronunciation is superior to mine. She encourages me to listen to western music so that I can improve my poor English. Since then, I've been curious to learn if the power of music and its unique application can be one of the practical, beneficial, and easily collectible ways to learn a language with ease and joy. To put it another way, music can assist us in storing the "linguistic treasure" in our "memory bag.". Although I don't feel like studying, the understanding came to me. It can improve my understanding of language, idiom, and the way I listen to English-speaking people.

A song may contain some poetry-style words as well. And learning a few idioms and using certain sentences to practice my understanding has been incredibly beneficial for me. The cognitive level is the main area of attention in the poetry lessons. In every session that was recorded, the cognitive tasks of interpreting tone, mood, meter, rhyme, and meaning were prioritized over affective and psychomotor domains. Although occasionally observed, integrations of the affective and psychomotor skills with regard to poetry are not typical in all poetry classes.

  1. I agree with the writer's opinion since I have the same old experience. I found that learning English is hard, but then I try with another way by using literary works such as songs, and poems. and it helps me since I love art.

  2. I think I agree with what you said. Even though we don't understand the lesson with the existing material, we can understand it through songs and poetry.

  3. I agree Cessil. Indeed by listening to songs our vocabulary can increase because we sing the song while learning to memorize and pronounce the correct words.
